Whitlingham Broad Campsite
This delightful campsite sits on the edge of the Norfolk Broads, offering a peaceful and scenic setting just a 15–30 minute walk or cycle from Norwich city centre. It features two spacious, level fields: an open upper field and a more enclosed lower field framed by shrubs. Vehicles are not allowed on the camping field, but you can unload nearby and borrow wheelbarrows for easy setup. The site has a genuine eco-friendly feel and permits campfires and BBQs, with fire pits available for hire. Toilet and shower blocks are consistently praised for their exceptional cleanliness, plenty of hot water, family-sized cubicles, and wheelchair-accessible facilities. An on-site shop is well stocked with practical camping essentials and treats at fair prices. The staff are repeatedly described as friendly, helpful, and welcoming, running a well-organised establishment. The location is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, with wonderful walks around the lake and along the river, easy access for kayaking or paddleboarding, and a nearby water activity centre. Children have plenty of space to play, with a great playground and woods to explore, and the atmosphere is very family- and dog-friendly. Some visitors note that on busy Friday nights there can be noise from large groups, and a few minor maintenance issues have been mentioned. The ground can be stony in places, making tent pegs tricky, and the bark path may be difficult for wheelchairs when wet. Potential downsides include the lack of WiFi and electric hookups, limited water access on the lower field, and occasional reports of poor customer service regarding booking issues. Despite these minor drawbacks, the overwhelming consensus is that this is a fantastic, reasonably priced site with nothing serious to dislike, and most guests would love to return.
