West Middlewick Farm is a working farm campsite nestled in the rolling hills of Devon, offering a genuinely rural escape where livestock roams freely and guests can soak up the pastoral atmosphere. The family that runs the farm—John, Jo, and their team—are exceptionally welcoming, often going out of their way to help, such as towing vehicles out of mud or guiding guests to the driest spots. The on-site farm shop is a standout feature, well-stocked with fresh local produce, raw milk, homemade cakes, chocolate milk from the farm’s own dairy, and even a pop-up café or tea room area. A recently opened café in a converted milking parlour serves delicious cooked breakfasts, lunches, and afternoon teas that have earned high praise. Pitches are spacious and well-maintained, with beautiful countryside views, and you can choose your own spot whether you prefer being close to the action or finding a quiet corner across rolling fields. Children love interacting with the farm animals—including calves, goats, donkeys, pigs, rabbits, and guinea pigs—and there is plenty of open space for play. The site also features a fishing lake, an EV charging point, and a pub within a short walk. WiFi is available for a reasonable fee, and mobile signal is strong. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, punctuated only by gentle farm sounds like occasional machinery or animals, which most find adds to the charm. Toilet and shower blocks are kept clean, though showers are coin-operated (20p per minute) and may be a fair walk from some pitches, with some guests noting they can take time to warm up. The working farm environment can bring minor drawbacks such as farmyard smells, flies in certain spots, and limited toilet numbers during busy periods. There is no recycling on site, and some facilities have been described as untidy in places. Overall, this is a relaxing, friendly spot that offers a true farm stay with clean basic amenities, making it a delightful base for families, couples, and anyone seeking a countryside escape—many guests return year after year.
