Set in expansive woodland, this vast campsite offers generous, well-spaced pitches that provide a sense of privacy and freedom. The natural surroundings are stunning, with beautiful walks, a lovely lake, and woods ideal for children to explore. Guests appreciate the option to forage for firewood and use fire pits, adding to the rustic camping experience. The site is particularly popular with families, offering a wide range of activities for children and teenagers, such as archery, laser tag, kayaking, and low ropes. These activities are generally considered good value, especially with the wristband system allowing unlimited access during set hours. Staff throughout the site receive consistent praise for being friendly, helpful, and welcoming, often going the extra mile for guests. The on-site bar and shop are appreciated conveniences, with the bar offering food and occasional evening entertainment. Pitches are exceptionally large, flat, and well-maintained, providing ample room for games and relaxation, with good privacy between plots. The location is beautiful and scenic, with easy access to Sherwood Forest and other local attractions, as well as nearby supermarkets and restaurants. However, the campsite has notable weaknesses. The toilet and shower facilities are a recurring complaint: many reviewers describe them as dirty, dated, poorly maintained, and insufficient in number for the site's size. The distance from certain pitches to the nearest toilet block is often cited as a problem, especially at night. The swimming pool is frequently reported as cold, and some guests find it unclean. Additionally, activities for children under five are limited or non-existent, which disappoints families with toddlers. Electric hookups are low amperage and can cause tripping, and some guests find them expensive. Noise levels are generally quiet after the 10pm curfew, though some disturbances from nearby festivals or groups can occur. Mobile phone signal is poor, and Wi-Fi is limited to the bar area, encouraging a back-to-nature atmosphere. Despite concerns about facility cleanliness, power supply, and amenity distances, many guests find the value for money good given the spaciousness, location, and range of activities. Numerous visitors express a desire to return, emphasizing the site's appeal for a fun-filled, activity-rich family holiday in a natural setting.
