Nestled in the heart of Dartmoor, this peaceful, family-run campsite offers a wonderful escape into nature with a relaxed and rustic atmosphere. The site is set among trees alongside a gentle stream, creating a serene backdrop filled with birdsong and the occasional call of owls at night. Facilities are modern and well-maintained, with particularly clean, well-lit toilet and shower blocks that receive high praise. The showers are reliably hot, though the water can sometimes be scalding and non-adjustable, and timed push buttons may require repeated pressing. Each pitch is generously sized, and guests are free to choose their own spot upon arrival, with many enjoying the privacy and shade provided by surrounding trees. Electric hookups are available for campervans and tents, and there is a handy reception room offering a fridge, freezer, kettle, and charging points for guests' use. The owners are friendly, approachable, and accommodating, often checking in personally to ensure everything is going well. Children are particularly well catered for with a natural play area featuring swings, hammocks, and a den, while the stream provides hours of paddling fun; however, there is no barrier between the play area and the stream, so supervision is advised. Fire pits and logs are available to hire, adding to the camping atmosphere, and an ice cream van occasionally visits in the evening. The location is ideal for exploring Dartmoor and nearby attractions like Castle Drogo, with a scenic walk to the local pub for meals. Some light road noise from the A30 can occasionally be heard, particularly at night, but is often described as a gentle, soothing rumble rather than a disturbance. A notable issue reported by a few guests is a strong unpleasant smell from the chemical disposal point, which is centrally located and can affect nearby pitches. Mobile signal is very limited, adding to the peacefulness, and there is currently no Wi-Fi available. The site has a strict no-dogs policy, which some appreciate for the resulting calm atmosphere. Overall, this campsite provides excellent value for money and a genuine escape into nature, with most guests eager to return.
