Set in the heart of the Peak District, this campsite provides a friendly and well-maintained base for walkers, families, and dog owners alike. The site enjoys a peaceful atmosphere with beautiful countryside views, though some road noise from the A515 can be heard on pitches near the road. Staff are repeatedly praised for their helpfulness, warmth, and willingness to go the extra mile, even assisting with car troubles. The on-site pub is a standout feature, serving excellent food including pizza, burgers, and breakfasts, with a cozy open fire in colder months, though its opening hours are limited and it can be pricey. Cleanliness is a consistent highlight, with modern and regularly cleaned toilet and shower blocks, though some guests note limited numbers leading to queues and occasional issues with hot water consistency. Spacious, level pitches with soft grass and lovely views accommodate large tents, though the ground can become boggy after rain, and an electric cable may be needed for hook-ups in damp conditions. The site is ideal for exploring the Tissington Trail, Limestone Way, and nearby towns like Buxton and Ashbourne, but accessing other routes without a car can be challenging. WiFi is poor on the campsite, only reliable in the pub, while mobile signal is generally good. The play area suits older children but is less ideal for toddlers, and the site is very kid-friendly with a safe space for play and quiet hours from 10pm. Dogs are welcome, with nearby walks and a donkey sanctuary next door adding charm. Fire pits are allowed, and logs can be purchased on site. Single travelers, including women, feel safe and supported. Some reviews mention that pitches can be close together with limited privacy, and wasps can be a nuisance in certain areas. The on-site pub is permanently closed as of 2025, but a sister pub is a short walk away. Overall, the campsite offers excellent value for money and a serene stay, with minor issues around noise, facility capacity, and occasional muddy conditions.
