Perched high on the cliffs of the South Downs, this campsite offers breathtaking panoramas over the sea, Lewes, and the surrounding countryside, with guests frequently praising the stunning sunrises and sunsets. The site is a peaceful, back-to-nature retreat, providing a quiet and relaxed atmosphere that is ideal for walkers and those seeking tranquility. It is conveniently located near Brighton, Newhaven ferry port, and the coastal towns of Saltdean and Rottingdean, with numerous trails leading directly to the coast, cliffs, and local pubs within a 20- to 45-minute walk. Pitches are large, well-spaced, and allow guests to choose their own spot upon arrival, giving a good sense of privacy even when the site is busy. The exposed hilltop position means it can be very windy, which may challenge tent pitching, especially in changeable weather, and the narrow access road has large potholes. Cleanliness of the facilities receives mixed reviews, with the toilets and showers often praised for their spotlessness, though showers suffer from low and unreliable water pressure and warm rather than hot water; there can also be queues at peak times. There is no on-site shop, but guests can pre-order fresh farm produce, breakfast hampers, BBQ packs, and fire pit kits that are delivered directly to their pitch, adding a special touch. A lovely farm shop sells fresh eggs with remarkably vibrant yolks, and fire pits can be hired or bought with logs for cozy evenings. The site is dog-friendly and popular with families, offering a safe and simple environment, but there are no bins, so all rubbish must be taken away. Staff are consistently friendly and helpful, though interaction is minimal as guests are largely left to enjoy the site independently. Laundry facilities including a washing machine and dryer are available for longer stays, and the lack of light pollution makes for excellent stargazing. Despite some minor criticisms about the constant driving of wardens around the field occasionally making guests feel less relaxed, and a few feeling the site was pricey for a very basic setup with limited amenities, the overwhelming majority of reviews describe a perfect, calming, and memorable stay. Overall, it offers excellent value for money for those seeking stunning scenery and tranquility, provided they are prepared for the elements and basic facilities.
