Riverside Campsite has undergone a remarkable transformation between 2024 and 2025. In 2024, it was described as plagued by significant maintenance and cleanliness issues, with dirty, unfinished toilet and shower facilities, long grass, muddy ground, and an unstaffed site. However, the 2025 experience reveals a dramatically improved site: it is praised for its cleanliness, quiet and relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff (especially owner Lizzie), and well-maintained facilities. The campsite is set in a beautiful rural location near East Ayton, bordering a river and trees, perfect for scenic walks and coastal exploration. It is conveniently close to Scarborough, Whitby, and the North York Moors. The village offers a pub, fish and chip shops, a mini market, and a church within walking distance. A standout feature is the friendly animals—miniature ponies, goats, donkeys, and horses—which children can feed. The atmosphere is relaxed, laid-back, and quiet at night. Facilities include basic but clean toilets and showers, electric hook-ups, and a chemical waste disposal point. Some guests note the lack of hot water for washing up and an unfinished feel to the facility block. The site is dog-friendly and popular with young families and mature couples. Improvements include a freshly gravelled driveway and ground leveling. It is easily accessible from the main road with no traffic noise. Overall, the campsite offers a back-to-basics camping experience that many appreciate, with a notable jump in quality from the previous year.
