Old Barn Camping is a well-tended, family-friendly campsite on the Isle of Wight that serves as a practical base for exploring Shanklin and nearby attractions. The location is highly praised, with easy access to beaches, supermarkets like Morrisons and Aldi, pubs, and takeaways, plus a bus stop just a short walk away. Dog owners particularly enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the many walks right from the back of the site. The pitches are generously sized, mostly level, and separated by mature hedges, offering a sense of privacy and seclusion uncommon on many sites. Guests appreciate the helpful, welcoming owners who go out of their way to assist, from local recommendations to ferry discounts. The grounds are tidy and well-kept, with recycling encouraged and a children's play area on site. A games room and laundry room add to the convenience. The facilities, including toilets and showers, are kept clean but are undeniably dated and would benefit from refurbishment. Showers operate on a 20p token system, providing hot water, though some guests find the coin requirement inconvenient and note the temperature cannot be adjusted. Noise can be a factor: the site lies close to a road and under the flight path of Sandown Airport, with small aircraft overhead during the day, but night-time disturbance is rare. Some guests reported overgrown hedges near bins and taps, drain smells on certain pitches, and rodent sightings near the waste area. The free WiFi works well overall, though it can slow down in the evening. Overall, the combination of peaceful, private pitches and genuine hospitality makes it an excellent base for exploring the island, and many guests plan to return.
