Nestled in the southern Lake District, Moss Howe Farm is a peaceful haven praised for its tranquil vibe, stunning fell views, and dark night skies perfect for stargazing. The friendly, helpful staff consistently go out of their way to assist and offer local advice, making guests feel well cared for. Modern toilet and shower blocks are kept spotless and well-maintained, with excellent hot water and good pressure, though sensor-operated units can cut out mid-shower and temperature adjustments can be tricky. The on-site shop is a standout, offering fresh croissants, pastries, locally sourced meat, and essentials; pizza nights and breakfast baps add to the dining options, though the pizza van may occasionally be unavailable. Pitches are generally spacious and level, with premium options offering picnic tables and fire pits for hire, though some tent-only areas can feel cramped when full, and privacy may be limited during busy periods. Narrow, bumpy access roads are a common challenge for larger vehicles and may flood in heavy rain, with limited passing points; guests are advised to approach from the Kendal side via Witherslack. WiFi is strong near the reception but patchy on some pitches, and mobile phone reception is often poor. The site enforces quiet hours after 10:30 pm and no vehicle movement after 8 pm, ensuring a restful night. Children are welcome, but there is limited dedicated play space, making the site more suited to older kids and quiet couples. Dogs are accepted, though on-site dog walks are limited. Additional amenities include a communal indoor area with seating and games, washing-up stations with hot water, free fridge and freezer space for non-electric pitches, and laundry facilities. Some guests have noted issues with pitch allocation, including being placed on wet or muddy ground, and a small number have experienced inconsistent responses from management. A few visitors reported that male facilities were closed for renovation without prior notice, and daytime construction work has caused occasional noise. Despite these drawbacks, the overwhelming majority of reviews highlight the campsite's cleanliness, helpful staff, and beautiful setting, with many guests expressing a wish to return or book a longer stay.
