Camping de Reekens is a small, charming mini-campsite located within walking distance of the historic fortress town of Heusden and the Maas river. The site is beautifully maintained and offers a peaceful setting, making it an excellent choice for relaxation. Guests consistently praise the warm and welcoming hospitality of the owners, who often go out of their way to assist, such as lending gas bottles or providing tractor help in wet weather. The pitches are spacious, well-maintained, and offer a choice of sun or shade, with many providing a sense of privacy. The sanitary facilities are modern, spotlessly clean, and feature excellent rain showers, with both overhead and hand-held options. Families with young children are especially well catered for, with a central playground featuring a sandpit, water pump, tractors, go-karts, climbing frame, and a petting zoo with donkeys, goats, pigs, chickens, and rabbits. Children can collect fresh eggs from the campsite's own chickens, which are also available for purchase locally. The safe, fenced area allows parents to supervise easily while children play together. The relaxed and convivial atmosphere encourages socializing, but guests can also enjoy their own space. Dogs are welcome without issue, and the campsite is also suitable for walkers staying just one night. The surrounding area offers excellent cycling and walking routes, including the Pilgrim's Path, Loonse en Drunense dunes, and scenic paths along the Maas. Nearby Heusden provides a variety of restaurants, shops, and historic sights, while cities like Den Bosch, Tilburg, and Breda are within easy reach. A communal indoor space with a bar, TV, games, books, and magazines is available during bad weather, though on-site entertainment and food service are not provided. Bicycle storage and recycling facilities are available, and a shared fridge and freezer is a thoughtful addition during hot weather. The reservation system allows guests to choose their pitch online and drive straight to it, adding convenience. The campsite is considered excellent value for money, with many guests planning return visits. Some minor downsides noted include the presence of mosquitoes during certain periods, a wandering chicken that may perch on caravan hitches, the lack of grey water disposal for motorhomes, and occasional noise from large groups. Overall, Camping de Reekens is a highly recommended, family-friendly campsite offering a peaceful, clean, and welcoming environment.
