This campsite sits along the B27 road toward France, near a cozy town with excellent German dining options, and its location by the Werratalsee makes it a great base for water sports, cycling, and hiking. The charming old town of Eschwege offers a highly recommended Greek restaurant and a wonderful ice cream parlor, and supermarkets like Aldi, Lidl, Edeka, and Action are easily reachable by bicycle. However, the value for money is frequently criticized, as guests find the prices far too high for the facilities provided. The grass pitches are often poorly maintained, becoming bare and muddy, and the ground can be extremely hard, requiring sturdy tent pegs. The sanitary facilities are a major drawback: they are cramped, outdated, and poorly equipped, with issues including a lack of hand soap, paper towels, and disinfectant, and some fixtures are out of order. Cleanliness of these facilities varied over the years, with reports ranging from acceptable to severely lacking. Noise can be a significant problem, especially on weekends when loud music from three sides plays until after midnight, and a nearby hip-hop festival has caused disruptive bass beats. Staff experiences have been mixed, with some years describing very unfriendly service while others praise warm and helpful employees. The bistro and restaurant service has been noted as rude with high prices. Wi-Fi is either poor or costs an extra fee, and water is charged separately. The pitches are spacious, especially those with comfort hookups, but shade is limited. A key is required for showers and toilets, and the reception closes for two hours daily. Despite the serene atmosphere in some years and the peaceful environment ideal for relaxation, the overall experience is often marred by upkeep issues and high costs.
