Nestled among vineyards on the edge of Bad Dürkheim, this lakeside campsite has long attracted return visitors who praise the beautiful setting and local wine. The location is serene by the lake, with excellent cycling paths, a swimming pond, and good shopping nearby, while the town offers many restaurants and the charming central avenue lined with grapevines adds character. However, recent visitors report significant inconsistencies, especially during busy periods like late September, when reception can feel chaotic and unwelcoming. Guests have struggled with parking combination vehicles, experienced difficulties using discount cards despite empty pitches, and found assigned pitches occupied upon arrival. The ground conditions on tent fields are notably uneven and unkempt, with long grass and long distances to toilet blocks, adding inconvenience. Sanitary facilities receive mixed feedback, described as adequate and dated by some, yet spotlessly clean by others, with reports of cleaning throughout the day. Staff friendliness is highly inconsistent, with some personnel described as friendly and helpful, while others are seen as unhelpful, curt, or unwelcoming at reception. Pricing is a common point of contention, with added surcharges and taxes making the stay feel expensive for what is offered, especially during high season when prices seem inflated. Mandatory environmental surcharges are considered hidden and unfair by some guests. The on-site restaurant has disappointed many visitors, though the Aloa Beach Bar earns praise for its atmosphere, and a nearby airfield restaurant called Cockpit is highly recommended. WiFi is unreliable or absent in many areas, despite guidebooks promising coverage, and a free local transport card is offered instead. Noise is a recurring issue, with weekend aircraft traffic from a nearby airfield, disruptive construction work, late-night noise from other campers, and constant disturbance from trains and small aircraft. The enforcement of rules is lacking, especially regarding off-leash dogs and quiet hours at night, which disturbs sleep. Pitches can be very small and cramped, with staff seemingly preferring to place guests right next to each other even when other areas are empty. A serious hygiene issue was noted around the lake, where goose droppings littered the ground both day and night, making the area unappealing. Washing machines have been reported broken, and guests in remote sections face a long walk to facilities. Despite these flaws, the campsite remains popular for its location and is recommended for short stays, though many feel the four-star rating is not fully justified, especially during high season.
