Gitzenweiler Hof is a sprawling campsite on the edge of Lindau, surrounded by forests and lakes, popular with families and travelers en route to Spain. The site boasts a fantastic swimming pool, a tasty snack bar, and a weekend market offering regional products. Modern sanitary facilities are generally clean and child-friendly, with a dedicated elephant-themed children's shower area that delights young visitors. The restaurant serves excellent Italian cuisine. However, the campsite suffers from severe overcrowding in high season, with tents packed tightly together and no privacy. Sanitary facilities become insufficient, leading to long waits for showers and toilets. Cold water for showers and dishwashing has been reported. Noise is a persistent issue: a nearby road and railway construction operated 24/7 in 2023, and late-night music from large groups disturbs the peace. Safety concerns include inadequate pedestrian paths, lack of speed bumps, and dangerous intersections. Management has been criticized for being unfriendly and disorganized, with reservation confirmations not honored and a dysfunctional website required for bookings. Payment is cash-only, and staff may refuse to provide change for larger bills. Despite these drawbacks, families with young children repeatedly return for the kids' programs and child-friendly atmosphere. The site is recommended mainly as a transit stop for one or two nights rather than a relaxing vacation.
