Nestled between the sparkling shores of Lake Lugano and Lake Como, this family-run campsite near Lago di Piano has been a beloved retreat for nearly half a century, now welcoming guests with the warm, attentive care of its third and fourth generations. The setting is wonderfully green and park-like, with lush, leafy pitches bordered by hibiscus bushes that create a peaceful, landscaped haven. Many pitches offer spacious layouts and direct views of the lake, while wide roads and paths make maneuvering a motorhome or caravan a breeze. The atmosphere is calm and laid-back, often described as a home away from home, with a heartwarming sense of community that encourages guests to return year after year. The on-site restaurant serves exceptional fresh pizza, making it a popular dinner spot, and a small swimming pool with loungers offers panoramic mountain vistas open even in September. The adjacent lake invites swimming, fishing, and stand-up paddleboarding, while a rocky beach and a children's playground with plenty of equipment keep younger visitors entertained. Hiking, mountain biking, and cycling are paradise here, with a well-developed bike path leading to Lake Lugano in about 20 minutes and a ferry from Menaggio to Bellagio. The surrounding area offers excellent supermarkets and dining options, with a market in Porlezza twice a week and a bus stop within walking distance. The staff are exceptionally friendly and multilingual, speaking Dutch, French, and German, and provide excellent advice on day trips and activities. Sanitary facilities are cleaned multiple times a day and maintained to a high standard, though showers require tokens and may have mixed reviews regarding water temperature. Wi-Fi is free and works well, with electricity hookups available at 3 or 6 amps, though only cash is accepted for payments. Some guests note occasional noise from a nearby church bell starting at 7 a.m. and traffic on the access road from Lugano, which is narrow and requires careful driving. The clientele tends to be older and Dutch, contributing to a senior-focused, tranquil ambiance ideal for transit stops or extended stays. Storage rooms are available for equipment, and the campsite offers ready-to-use tents for added convenience. With its stunning lakeside setting, friendly staff, and blend of relaxation and adventure, this campsite provides a perfect base in the Italian lake district for those seeking a restful, scenic escape.
