Porticiole campsite offers a stunning lakeside setting that remains its greatest asset, but the overall experience has become deeply inconsistent. The natural beauty of the location still impresses, yet the site suffers from noticeable neglect, with overgrown paths, knee-high grass, and a small beach marred by litter. The sanitary block is cleaned only superficially, leaving grimy walls and cobwebs, while showers are often lukewarm or cold with limited hours. No toilet paper is provided, and dishwashing water is cold. Despite these shortcomings, the staff—especially owner Alessandro—are exceptionally friendly and go out of their way to help, including arranging transport to Rome. The on-site self-service restaurant used to serve delicious wood-fired pizzas, but recent years have seen it outsourced, with fresh pizzas replaced by pre-baked versions. The shop is now nearly empty, offering very few supplies or local products. The terrace opens only on a limited schedule, even in early summer, reducing dining flexibility. Public transport to Rome is excellent: a €8 day ticket covers train and city travel, and the train ride takes about an hour. Cycling to the nearby hilltop town is dangerous due to fast traffic, and the steep hill is challenging even with e-bikes. The pitching policy feels arbitrary, and pitches are small with limited shade. Water access is available, but overall cleanliness remains a major concern. For those seeking a practical base for lakeside relaxation and Rome visits, the campsite works—but only if you can overlook its significant wear and tear.
