This campsite sits directly opposite the main entrance to the Pompeii archaeological site, offering history enthusiasts unmatched convenience for exploring the ancient ruins on foot. The small grounds are dotted with lemon and mandarin trees, creating a charming Mediterranean atmosphere that guests with dogs particularly enjoy. Despite its central location, the atmosphere is often quiet and peaceful, though this tranquility can be disrupted by daytime visitors using the site as a parking lot. The pitches are separated by hedges, providing decent privacy, but they are small and often unkempt, with some measuring roughly 6 by 4.5 meters. A recurring issue across multiple years is the poor state of the sanitary facilities, which are described as outdated, dirty, and at times emitting a strong stench of urine. Showers have been known to break down, forcing guests to use alternative facilities in bungalows. Cleanliness is a major concern, with reports of ants, stray cats, and even visible feces stains left uncleaned for days. The staff are generally friendly but speak only Italian, and communication can be tense when discussing vehicle lengths or payment policies. Payment is cash-only, the ACSI card is not always accepted, and tourist taxes may be charged unexpectedly. Electrical hookups offer only 6 amperes, frequently tripping when using a refrigerator and charging devices together. Security is a concern due to hourly room rentals and the mixed-use atmosphere, with some guests feeling unsafe. The surrounding area is noisy at times, which can disturb rest, and access roads are tricky due to low-hanging branches. A nearby train station provides easy connections to Naples and Mount Vesuvius, and a pleasant town is within walking distance. Dining options are available off-site but no bread is offered on-site in the morning. The overall experience varies greatly: some guests appreciate the location and quiet charm, while others are deeply disappointed by the neglect and poor management. The campsite has declined significantly over decades, with earlier visitors reporting better conditions than those seen in recent years. For travelers who prioritize cleanliness and modern amenities, this site is best avoided.
