The site stretches nearly a kilometer along the water, offering prime pitches where you can watch ships pass by, especially in the evening. Guests can choose their own spot on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations needed, though turnover is high and a place usually opens by early afternoon. The on-site restaurant earns praise for tasty food and offers campers a daily discount, and a small shop sells groceries and fresh bread rolls each morning. The surrounding area is perfect for cycling and hiking, with attractions like Bacharach, Oberwesel, Boppard, and Koblenz easily accessible. The charming town of St. Goar is a 10-to-15-minute walk away, providing additional dining and a boat dock. However, the campsite is notorious for constant noise from railway lines on both sides, a busy road, and heavy shipping traffic on the Rhine, which can make sleep difficult. Diesel fumes from passing barges are also noticeable at times. The sanitary facilities receive mixed reviews: some find them recently renovated and clean, while others report outdated fittings, blocked showers, and poor upkeep during busy periods. Water and electricity hookups are available, but some guests note too few points, leading to long cables creating trip hazards. Wifi is weak and often non-functional. The free-choice pitch system can become chaotic when the site is full, with narrow pathways through a maze of vans, and management does not intervene to organize it. Checkout can involve long waits with only one staff member on duty. Prices are considered high relative to the comfort and noise levels, with many feeling profit is prioritized over guest satisfaction.
