Camping Étang de la Vallée
Nestled in a scenic and forested area, this lakeside campsite serves as a convenient base for exploring nearby attractions while offering a serene escape for nature lovers. The location is a highlight, with direct access to a lovely lake that features a lifeguarded beach where guests can enjoy paddleboarding, pedalo rides, and swimming. Pitches are generally spacious, level, and well-spaced among trees and bushes, providing ample shade and a sense of privacy. The staff are frequently praised for their friendliness and helpfulness, often going out of their way to assist with local information or even offering beer sales when the bar is closed late in the season. On-site amenities include two washroom blocks with toilets and showers, along with sinks for washing up and laundry, though reviews indicate these facilities can feel tired and are not always cleaned regularly. Families appreciate the small playground, covered area with games like giant Connect 4, and activities barn, while a daily bread delivery service for fresh baguettes and pastries adds a nice touch. The campsite also hosts periodic events such as a paella van and craft fairs, enhancing the community feel. However, significant and recurring cleanliness and maintenance issues plague this otherwise promising site—toilets and showers are frequently reported as filthy, poorly maintained, and lacking essential supplies like toilet paper, hand soap, and sanitizer. Drain blockages, overgrown hedges, abandoned objects on pitches, and closed facilities like the bar contribute to a neglected atmosphere. Reception can be unstaffed and unresponsive, with confusion over check-in times causing frustration, and in one instance a receptionist was described as aggressive. Nighttime disturbances from hunting dogs and gunshots have been reported, ruining the peace for some guests. The chemical toilet disposal point was once locked, and shower lighting timers were left on summer settings, leaving some visitors in the dark. There is no on-site shop, so guests must bring their own essentials. While the natural setting and lake access remain strong draws, the lack of consistent upkeep, poor welcome, and noise issues undermine the overall experience.
