The location is a standout feature, serving as an excellent base for walkers, climbers, and outdoor enthusiasts with direct access to trails around the Roaches, Tittesworth Reservoir, and Lud's Church. Several well-regarded pubs, including the Three Horseshoes and Lazy Trout, are within a short walking distance and offer excellent food and drinks. A popular wood-fired pizza van operates on select evenings, set in a charming wooded area, adding a convenient and sociable dining option. The site maintains a peaceful atmosphere, especially with a 10pm noise curfew that most campers respect, though occasional noise from larger groups or the nearby road has been noted. Cleanliness of the toilets and general facilities is consistently praised, and they are kept well-stocked with essentials like soap and toilet roll. Showers are coin-operated at £1 for five minutes, providing hot water and good pressure, though some find the system inconvenient and note a lack of hooks inside. The friendly and attentive owners are frequently highlighted, making evening rounds to offer fire pit hire with affordable wood and logs. The site is very family-friendly and welcomes dogs, contributing to a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere. However, wasps and hornets can be a significant nuisance during warmer weather. Practical shortcomings include a lack of hot water at the washing-up sinks, which only provide cold water, and an insufficient number of toilet and shower blocks during peak times, leading to queues. The toilet and shower blocks are located in the first field, which can be a long walk for those camped at the back of the furthest fields. Mobile phone signal is poor, and WiFi is essentially unavailable, which many guests appreciate as a chance to disconnect. The check-in process is refreshingly simple, allowing guests to drive in and set up wherever they like on a first-come, first-served basis. The fields are mostly flat with short grass, making pitching easy, and the open layout allows plenty of space between tents and campers. Fire pit hire is available with a deposit and is a popular highlight that enhances the camping atmosphere. The ground can become very wet and boggy after rain, requiring wellies and caution for vehicles, but owners are equipped to help.
