Big Bear Lodge is a beautifully maintained, peaceful campsite in Shropshire that feels like a home away from home. The site is well laid out with clearly marked pitches that offer plenty of space for tents and vehicles, so you never feel boxed in. A gated field provides extra security and room for children to play football or frisbee. The playground is a hit with kids, though one slide was broken during a visit. The toilet and shower blocks are kept spotlessly clean, and the showers receive mixed reviews—most find them great, but one guest found them a bit disappointing. A 24-hour honesty shop sells essentials, ice creams, and toys at fair prices, and guests love the convenience of ordering homemade pizzas and breakfast baps delivered right to their tent. The pizzas are widely praised as exceptional, and the chips are also tasty. Campfires are allowed, adding to the relaxed atmosphere. The site is located near Shrewsbury and local pubs, with beautiful surroundings including the Breidden Hill climb. The owners are friendly, helpful, and communicate well before arrival, even allowing flexible departure times in wet weather. The pitches are generous and well-maintained with fresh grass. Some guests staying in the Banff tent found the bed uncomfortable and the bedding insufficient, and noted the tent was close to the toilets' automatic lights. There is no WiFi, but mobile signal on the Three network was strong. Overall, the combination of cleanliness, spacious pitches, excellent honesty shop, and food delivery service makes Big Bear Lodge a standout campsite that many plan to revisit.
