Ashurst Caravan and Camping Site
Ashurst Campsite is a spacious and beautifully maintained site in the New Forest, offering a magical countryside experience where wild ponies, cows, and donkeys roam freely among well-spaced pitches. Visitors consistently praise the exceptional cleanliness of the facilities, including tidy and well-stocked shower blocks with ample hot water. The generous pitch sizes provide plenty of room to spread out, whether in open grass or under tree shade, with a sense of privacy and natural beauty. Staff are wonderfully friendly and welcoming, contributing to a well-run atmosphere that guests appreciate. The location is superb, backing directly onto miles of forest trails for walking and cycling, with a train station and bus stop within walking distance for car-free access. A pub with a playground is just a short walk across a field, and a Co-op is nearby for supplies, with sandy beaches a short drive away. The site is peaceful with quiet hours after 10 PM, though noise from the nearby road and train line can be disruptive, especially for light sleepers. Security gates locked from 10 PM to 7:30 AM may feel restrictive for late arrivals or early departures. The ground can become very hard or boggy after rain, making tent setup challenging. There are no electric hookups, WiFi, or kitchen facilities, and dogs are allowed but with some signage confusion regarding pitches. The abundant wildlife, including ponies and deer roaming the site, adds a magical touch that enchants families and nature enthusiasts. Overall, this is an excellent choice for those who value a clean, well-run campground in a stunning natural setting, though those sensitive to train noise or needing flexible access might consider alternatives.
